Lazy Sunday Pick Me Up Makeup

This minimal non-touring look feels like I have taken care of my skins needs while giving myself a pick me up

This minimal non-touring (highlighting without the contouring) look which feels like I have taken care of my skins needs while giving myself a pick me up

After a hard week, and an active Saturday, nothing compares to a lazy Sunday with a nice afternoon walk, lots of tea and cake,a hearty roast and putting your feet up with a wine whilst watching a good drama.

I believe that you can get away with cutting some corners with minimal makeup, creating a barefaced but fresh look.

How to create a non-touring finish

  • For a light base after your cleansing routine, select a bb cream and mix a small amount of the some shimmer oil to it before applying this to your skin.
  • Brush on the shimmer powder to the high points of the face with a fan brush (and a small blending brush for the eye area)
  • A cream blush can be used for the lips, eyes and cheeks which is great for cutting corners on a lazy Sunday.*Try mixing a decent lip balm with the cream blush for an instant hydrated & tinted finish*.
  • Work the mascara wand into the roots first for a fuller finish.
  • For a natural brow finish, use a brow mascara and brush the product in very lightly, let it dry and repeat if necessary.
  • To keep the skin glowing, skip the powder and use blotting sheets for absorbing unwanted shine without ruining your makeup.
  • Finish with a light water spray to set and lock in the moisture
  • My monthly glossy box has really come in handy with this look and each month for when I either run out of something or I want to try something new.

Forest fruits and deep dense shades are going to be the rage this season. From blackcurrent and deep rasberry to hazy taupe, dark teal, dense coppers and rust tones.

I can across one of my forest shoots that I created the makeup for and thought this was a great example of the eye popping colours being used this year. This gives me inspiration for another great forest shoot.

Fresh faced, graphic eyes, rasberry red lips and a splash of subtle silver to the corners of the eye.

New Makeup Primers for Brides!

One of the  most important thing to all brides is having radiant flawless skin on their day. In order to achieve this with makeup application is to get a good primer base on the skin first as this helps the foundation stay on longer, look more even and buff well with no streaks.

I am really excited to say I have recently found to amazing primers which I know all my brides are going to love!!

The first one is called Hydra finish which is a highly moisturising product containing hyaluronic acid for normal, dry and sensitive skin, it both protects and brightens. It glides on really easily over usual day time moisturiser providing an extra smooth and flawless base for foundation. . Dry skins generally loose foundation in patches around dryer areas like cheeks, so providing a barrier over day-time moisturiser and under foundations allows both to work more efficiently, so with Hydra Primer there is no more separation of foundation in patches.

And the second one is called Matt finish which has a light velvet consistency and is extremely comfortable to wear. It is applied over normal daytime moisturiser and provides an amazingly smooth base for foundation to sit on top of. It provides both a barrier and filler effect to minimize the appearance of large pores and skin blemishes, whilst other properties include oil control and an anti-caking effect. Applying Matte Finish Primer underneath make-up including the eye area, will keep it in perfect order for hours longer without change to colour or texture.

Whats also really great is that both primers can be used underneath eye make-up ensuring a longer lasting effect for all eye shadows.

Autumn Location Shoot

Autumn is a great time for outdoor location shoots while the colours are rich, making an opportunity for some strong contrasts of colours. We managed to get a window of great weather so we took the opportunity to capture the soft late afternoon lighting. For me preparation is the key, so I formed a collection of ideas, sketches, photos and current on trends looks onto a board to give me a creative vision of what I wanted. Me and my husband Simon of Simon Hawkins Photography who was the photographer went through all the small details of the lighting set up, location, model, clothing and how to structure/piece it all together prior to the day.

Once this was all confirmed I then had the most exciting bit to do which is to sketch/create a look on a design sheet that I felt was going to tie all the elements together.  Turning this into reality is like creating art for me as it something I thrive on. It took me 2 hours from start to finish to go through the best outfits with the model and applying the makeup, which many people always wonder why it takes so so long to do. But trust me, if you want to look flawless for the camera it takes time to get perfect. There are so many stages to applying makeup professionally which I really take pride in getting right!

Once we got to our location, Simon always starts off by doing some test shots to ease the model into the shoot gently and it also gives me the chance to check the makeup in camera and do any adjustments before we got going. The shoot took approximately 2 hours.

Here is a selection of the finished looks of the lovely model Louise who I thought was a real pro !
