“Prep & Prime before foundation !”
Keeping your skin hydrated before and during foundation application is important. Even with the best foundations out there, if your skin isn't cleansed properly and the foundation is buffed right it can look heavy, cakey, dry and flakey.
We all want a smoother and flawless base whilst keeping the skin looking natural.
The best way to achieve this is to:-
Cleanse, tone and moisturise prior to applying foundation(even if you have no old makeup on) as this will clear bacteria build up caused by sweat and dirt, minimises pores, balances the ph levels and hydrates the skin.
Did you know… Some toners are humectants, which means that they help to bind moisture to the skin.
There are many different types of primers on the market to choose from. Select one that is going to control your skin type as much as possible, creating a substantially flat and smooth surface. You only need to use a small amount, apply along the T-zone(across the forehead and down the centre of the face) and work into the rest of the safe and neck. You don't need to blend it as it will absorb and settle onto the skin.
Applying a foundation needs to be done with care, if you put too much on it will not only clog the pores but can emphases dry areas and blemishes.
Selecting the correct foundation is the first thing that you need to understand and get right. Bare in mind the time of year as this effects the skin. Your skin is under hormone and nervous control. You may have several skin types going on, if this is the case, select a foundation for your main areas of concern and then adjust the foundation to other area,e.g. If you have oily skin and you select a Matt, but have dry patches, either avoid in these areas or add some of your Matt with a little bit of moisturizer on the back of your hand and apply as necessary.
Top tip – dot on foundation first and then blend with a damp sponge as this not only creates a shear finish but adds moisture which helps blend it into even the most driest skin. Always add in thin layers.
To finish this, blend with a kabuki brush as this will smooth any areas that didn't get blended.
*Each layer needs to be left for a minute to ensure it has settled into the skin before the next layer is applied.
